AMS Scientific Conference 2026
What if the landscapes we consider “waste(d)” are actually future infrastructures for regeneration?
Tunca Beril Basaran will be presenting at the AMS Scientific Conference 2026.
“Slag-Scaping: Addressing Circularity Through the Regeneration of Steelmaking Wastescapes”
Linking global steel supply chains with on-the-ground living labs, this research proposes a regenerative framework that repositions overlooked industrial wastescapes at the intersection of technical and living systems — catalyzing new pathways toward resilient, environmentally just, circular regions.
This research developed through the MSc Urban Design thesis Technische Universität Berlin became the foundation of CosmoLabs – “Loops that Regenerate,” a systemic research and design initiative focused on vulnerable agricultural landscapes and communities. Today through CarboSlag, our circular climate-tech innovation dedicated to bringing degraded lands and soils back to life, we aim for practicing "business for impact".
From 14–16 April 2026, the AMS Scientific Conference returns to Amsterdam with its third edition: “Reinventing the City: Connecting the Dots, Closing the Loops.”
Over three days, researchers, policymakers, industry partners, and urban professionals will come together to explore how cities can become more resilient, regenerative, and just.
